Yuzhong peninsula
Link Liberation Square, older lanes, river viewpoints, and Hongya Cave in one central day. Expect stairs and layered roads; an apparently short route may require elevators, bridges, or a metro detour.

重庆 / 2–4 days
A vertical river metropolis of hillside alleys, layered transit, neon viewpoints, and communal hot pot—visually intense, physically demanding, and unlike anywhere else.
At a glance
Spend two or three full days in Chongqing and plan by elevation as well as map distance. Give one day to central Yuzhong, one to a river crossing or neighborhood, and one optional day to museums or a wider excursion.
The non-negotiables
Link Liberation Square, older lanes, river viewpoints, and Hongya Cave in one central day. Expect stairs and layered roads; an apparently short route may require elevators, bridges, or a metro detour.
See the train-through-building viewpoint as part of a transit route, not a standalone half-day. Continue to a nearby neighborhood or museum so the stop has context.
Choose one river crossing and verify operating conditions and queues. The point is to read the topography; you do not need every elevated attraction.
Keep transfers under control
Day 1 — Central Yuzhong and one sunset viewpoint.
Day 2 — Cross the river, explore a neighborhood, and return for hot pot.
Day 3 — Add the Three Gorges Museum, an art district, or a current-weather excursion.

Arrival plan
Small choices, better days
01Measure distance vertically as well as horizontally.
02Choose a mild or split hot-pot broth if your spice tolerance is uncertain.
Terminals and bases
Chongqing North, Chongqing West, the airport, and other terminals serve different routes. Save the exact terminal and hotel entrance because steep streets can confuse vehicle pickup. Stay near a metro station with a direct lift or manageable walk.
After the sights
Order a divided hot-pot broth when spice tolerance varies, and add noodles, small bowls, and grilled food across the trip. Hongya Cave is most photogenic after dark but extremely busy; view it from across or below rather than fighting every internal escalator.
Protect the trip
Rain can make steps slippery and hide views. Replace exposed hillside walks with the Three Gorges Museum, an indoor food experience, malls connected to transit, or a shorter neighborhood route with reliable lifts.
