Hangzhou East is the main high-speed rail hub, while Hangzhou Station is closer to parts of the center. Check the terminal and avoid road transfers around West Lake at peak times. Stay near a metro connection or on the side of the lake you plan to explore most.

Food and evening rhythm
Try Longjing shrimp, Dongpo pork, noodles, and seasonal Jiangnan dishes. Lakeside restaurants vary widely in price; a neighborhood branch with a clear menu is often easier. Evenings suit a lake walk rather than another distant attraction.

Rain can make the lake moody but paths slippery. Move a museum, temple, tea tasting, or canal activity forward. In storms or extreme heat, skip exposed hill walks and keep the route close to transit.
